About

ENERGicloud – 21st Century Energy Matters

Scope.
- To provide a virtual home for energy, environmental and carbon information.

Outline.
ENERGicloud is a social networking service bringing together professionals and information from the energy, environmental and carbon sectors. Created to bridge the gap between individuals, groups and organisations, ENERGicloud provides the platform for collaborative efforts on any topic. It is an inclusive site and welcomes the whole supply chain from consumers to suppliers, from consultants to lawyers, from technology companies to government offices and from infrastructure specialists to local authorities.

FREE membership of the site giving access to all public areas means that you can have your say and get involved right now.

Overview.
The site has five main areas.
1. Members
Once you have created your account you will be able to interact with other members, create contacts, share information privately using the internal email system and post thoughts on each others wire (a brief publicly viewable messaging system). You can decide how much information on your profile you wish to share so you can control what information about yourself other members can see. There is a membership directory and viewing others profiles allows you to determine whether you have common interests or not. To add a member as your contact you must make a request to that member and they must accept your request.

2. Groups
When you register you can become a member of any of the public groups and join in the debate. Groups will be added on a need basis, some will be public access and some private access which you will need to apply for membership of. Some groups may require you to be an existing member of their external group in order to be accepted. When you apply for membership of any private group the administrator of that group will respond by private message to you.
Groups provide a way of facilitating debate; they include their own forum, wire and document archive. Groups make it easy to keep track of specific topics.

3. Forums
Forums are an integral part of the groups and are open for general contributions, to ask questions and to respond to queries. Topics that are deemed to be of particular importance will make it on to the ’sticky’ list so that they are easily accessible for others to view. You must be a member of the group that contains the forum in order to post or reply to topics.

4. Events
The events section will provide details about external as well as ENERGicloud events. Attendance of ENERGicloud events will be logged in your profile where you will be able to access an event group where continued debate amongst attendees can take place.

5. Directory
The directory is where you will find listings of companies providing services to the energy sector.

Development.
As the site develops (currently it’s in a beta state (0.7)), the inclusion of other interactive material may be included. Membership polls, questionnaires, reports, cell groups, virtual conferences and tutorials could find there way onto the site.
