Colin Reeds posted on the forum topic Do Certificates Produce Energy Savings? in the group Environmental 101: 3 months ago
Hi Guys
I work for a local authority and although certificates don’s produce savings direct, it focuses the mind of the people at the top.
As soon as the certificates were posted on the walls, there was an internal competition to make each building more efficient which is good news. However, without any legal obligations to get [...] -

Hi Damian
Not in agreement with you. Why would a regulator save more energy.
Regardless of what the regulator is made, electronic (thyristor) or mechanical (variac) it will use more energy than a standard unit. The voltage is low in the day and high in the night, hence in the night where your regulator will be useful, the [...]

Hi Damian
The issue on lifts, which we also faced, was purely down to the under-voltage phase relays the lifts have. Most lifts have these relays as to ensure that if a phase within a building fails then the lift doesn’t run on two phases which will destroy the motor. With VO, the voltage is reduced and [...]

Hi Damien
I agree with most of the above except the part about motors having lower torque. The motor speed and torque are frequency related and not voltage. Voltage has nothing to do with motor speed or torque.Reducing the voltage will not affect the speed/torque of a motor otherwise, motors in Whitefield-Manchester(Average 224V) will run [...]

Hi Paul
I assume you work for a company selling this current optimisation. I can ensure you that it does not work. It acts as a local Power Factor correction which it does not save energy. We tried it in my previous job and did nothing, I repeat nothing, hence please don’t try and push your [...]
